Garrapata Beach Proposal

Big Sur Garrapata Beach Proposal: Max and Casey’s Sunny Spring Surprise

When Max reached out to me over a month ago, he was excited to plan a memorable proposal in Big Sur. Living in San Francisco, he’s not too far from the area—but he had never explored some of my favorite spots, like Garrapata. After chatting about a few different ideas, Max decided that this would be the perfect place to pop the question.

We met up on an early May evening, and let me tell you—conditions were absolutely perfect. Big Sur can be unpredictable, but tonight? It was 65 degrees at sunset, not a cloud in the sky, and incredibly peaceful. Despite a big race weekend bringing lots of Porsches to town, Garrapata was surprisingly quiet. It felt like we had the whole coast to ourselves.

After Max proposed, we spent the next 30 minutes soaking in the moment and snapping candid shots before heading to Garrapata Beach. This beach is a gem—tucked right off Highway 1, with rugged cliffs and long stretches of sand that make it one of my favorite beaches in all of California. The tide was strong (as it often is there), so we kept a safe distance, but the golden hour lighting was unbeatable.

A fun twist to the evening? Max and Casey had rented a sleek Porsche for the weekend, and it made the whole experience feel extra special. We grabbed a few fun shots with the car before they drove off to dinner at Ventana, a gorgeous spot about 30 minutes south. Renting a Porsche—or any cool car—is one of those little details that can really elevate the entire proposal experience, both in the moment and in your photos. If you’re planning your own Big Sur proposal, it’s something worth considering.

All in all, this Big Sur Garrapata Beach proposal couldn’t have gone better—beautiful weather, a quiet beach, and a couple totally in love. I’m so glad I got to be part of their story.

Thinking about proposing in Big Sur? Let’s talk about your vision and how we can bring it to life, whether you’re planning something simple or adding unique touches like a Porsche, champagne, or a special dinner afterward. Big Sur is full of magic—you just need the right guide to help you find it.
