What to Wear to Your Family Shoot (Part 1)
Begin With Mom
Mom, were about to take some amazing photos that are going to go viral on Pinterest. Lets make you look good first. Start with your outfit. Plan the colors and textures and then plan your family around you. Now you can start with Dad or your baby. But, honestly, its fun to dress up. And, you have the best excuse. You need good pictures!
Following this principle, you should compliment each-other. Don’t worry about matching.
Get Ready For Your Environment
The Monterey area can be chilly…like….all year round. I encourage layers. Or bring a light jacket that can be thrown off onto the sand or off the trail.
Bring the right shoes. Stay away from the athletic shoes. This can wreck the whole outfit. Guys seem to struggle with this. So here is a reco for the dudes. Redwings. Theses shoes seem to work in every setting.
Are we shooting in your house or hotel? Take a look around. What do you think would look good and complement your setting? A slick, black, mad men suit, is not going to complement your cozy Hygge living room.
Test Out Your Clothes
A few days before our session, try on your clothes. Figure out which outfit you think works best! When thinking about your clothing make sure to stay classic. Trendy is cool but trendy is trendy. I don’t want you, ten years from, to look at your photos and laugh. Braces, yes. Clothing or posing, not so much. I like timeless. Need help with this? Check out Nordstrom, or J-Crew, or Anthropologie. You can schedule a time with a stylist OR just ask an employee. They probably work there because they love fashion and you would make their day if you asked them to dress you!
